October '20 Collection

SO! September didn't exist this year. I mean it did, and it was actually a really great month but I didn't do a collection on it. SO, It doesn't exist here on this blog. Today I'm here to talk about October.October October October. It was a month. It was a set of 31 days that I was alive for. That I know for sure. A Lot of good things happened but crap stuff fell into my lap too, as crap is known to do. So now I'm going to go over all of the good and the crap with you---I am SO sorry for that rhyme, I'm turning myself into the authorities ASAP.

7 things that I did

1) Went to the movies for the first time in seven months
2) Started (and stopped) going to the gym.Woops.
3) Survived my first month of driving without getting in a car accident
4) Interviewed 14 of my friends for a birthday video
5) Fell in love with the Sunrise Trilogy
6) Read poetry with my friends in a cemetery
7) Saw a 15 minute Trump parade while eating mac and cheese pizza

Top 5 songs

Positions---Ariana Grande

Where do I BEGIN ?!? That was a joke. I know where to begin, exactly how the song begins. With the stringsssss. The beautiful *pluck pluck pluck pluck* at the beginning is freaking brilliant. The song is the title track off of her new album and I am a HUGE fan. Of the song, not the album. I had every intention of loving the album but the album turned that intention on it's head. 34+35 was a lot of fun (again, because of the strings) but that was only other song worth saving. But Miss Ariana nailed Positions.Nailed.It.

The Story of Us---Taylor Swift

Let me tell you something...I do not like the strum of a banjo or the tipping of a straw hat...I am not a yee haw girl. Except when it comes to 2010 Taylor Alison Swift. I heard a snippet of this song on Twitter one Tuesday evening and my GOD it has rocked my world ever since. The note that she hits at the 4:09 mark is literally one of my favorite musical moments of this year and the song came out 10 years ago. Taylor never misses. Except for with ME! She missed with ME!

Don't Let the Sun Catch you Crying---Bob Marley and the Wailers

I heard another version of this song when I watched Never Rarely Sometimes Always and Autumn (who was born in August which totally invalidates her name, in my humble opinion) sings it at the Karaoke bar. Her version was okay, but this version is amaZING. I love Bob Marley. He's one of those artists that I never listen to intentionally but always enjoy whenever they pop into my life. love love love.

Hey Girl---Lady Gaga ft Florence Welch

I hate to say this...but this song is a sisterhood anthem. Neither Lady G nor Florence W sound like their usual selves but the song is lovely. It is bright, it is poppy, and it is chock full friendship tainted lyricism. "Help me hold your hair back, walk me home when you can't find a cab, and we dance down the bowery, held hands like we were 17 again" shall carry me for the rest of my days. Florence Welch has one of my favorite voices in the industry and Gaga is just...GAGA!

I'm Gonna Be (500 miles)---The Proclaimers

I was introduced to this song by How I Met your Mother because it was stuck in Marshall's CD disk which is amazing because it happens to be one of THE best songs ever. The way that the guitar strums, the way that they are practically spitting out their diction on the mic, the ba-da-das! There's just so much to take in, so much to enjoy. I'm glad that it exists.

5 Pop-Culture Things that Made me Laugh

1. The fly landing on Mike Pence's head during the VP debate
2. Alicia keys wearing a wig to the BBMAs that made her look like Nicki Minaj
3. Every single teenage girl freaking out over Timothée Chalamet's GQ cover
4. All of the Amy Coney Barrett nicknames (Ferret, Beret, that b!tch) just not her getting inducted
5. A bunch of teenagers doing the thriller dance to ward off Trump supporters

1 Quote that I *enjoyed*

"Life goes by fast. Enjoy it. Calm down. It's all funny"---Joan Rivers

My Lifelong Affair with Corinne Bailey Rae

Corinne Bailey Rae has existed in my universe for as long as I can remember. My parents were music snobs back in the day and only allowed me and my sisters to listen to what they listened to in a  (successful) attempt to make sure that we all picked up their taste. Growing up I heard a lot of Prince, a lot of Sade, a lot of Billie Holiday, and a lot of Stevie Wonder. And while all of those artists have a special place in my heart none of them have stuck with me the way that Corinne Bailey Rae has.  Corinne Bailey Rae's self-titled debut album came out in 2006 when I was 2 years old. My family was still a family of four, we hadn't moved to the suburbs yet, and my father still had all of his hair. Things were different. I don't what hearing CBR's music for the first time felt like (re: two years old) but I do know that I heard it all of the time. It played during road trips down to Mississippi, while my mom cooked dinner, while me and my older sister slept. That a...

If I ever got a tattoo...

I'd probably faint and/or cry the second they used those little cleaning wipes to prepare me for the needle. Then, after being nursed back to health with a juice box and slightly sedated with something serious but sensible (try saying those last seven words five times fast...), I'd hop back on my chair and finalize my design. The idea of getting a tattoo freaks me out because tattoos are forever and  the thought of anything that I do being final is genuinely terrifying, So I wouldn't even bother trying to come up with a design of something special or even relatively important. No, I'd get something silly enough for it not to be taken too seriously but respectable enough for it to not make me look like a total idiot. A bee...a semi circle...a fried egg...the letter w...a qr code that sends you to the YouTube video of Beyoncé's 2009 Grammy performance...a rubber ducky. Nothing is really off limits as long is it fits the aforementioned requirements. I'd want the ta...

Why I write

Lately I've been ruminating about why I write, because I do it a lot. Every night I write one good thing about my day and answer a question from a journal that I've been working in for about 5 five years now. Every week I write a journal entry in a series that I started one Saturday morning in September back in 2016 that I call my '! per weeks.' I write screenplays, I write short stories, I write essays. I write I write I write---and I'm proud of it. There is a large portion of my heart that is dedicated to storytelling and all of the joy that it can bring and a large portion of my brain that's dedicated to dreaming about becoming a storyteller. So the cheap answer to the question that I've raised for myself would be that I write because I want to pursue it professionally, but I know that it's a lot more complex than that. During a sunny week in September 2014, I was tasked with a special assignment. It was the first week of fifth grade and my teacher ha...
