vday blues

I've always really really loved valentines day. When I was little I would struggle to fall asleep the night before because I'd be thinking about the carefully labeled candies that I'd get to pass out in class the next day and become overwhelmed by the amount of premature enthusiasm that I'd feel. As time has gone by that enthusiasm hasn't waned. Many of my cherished memories have happened on this day: a meticulously planned middle school class party, a cafeteria fight my freshman year, the discovery of one of my favorite role models...The list goes on and on---it actually doesn't, I couldn't think of anymore great valentine's day based memories but I simply do not have the energy nor the interest to rewrite that section. This year is different, that sort of goes without saying at this point. We're in a pandemic, the sky is green, badabada bing. In my 16 year history of valentines day I've never felt bad about not actually having a valentine. My ...

I cannot wait to walk down the aisle

The running list of things that I miss about my life pre-quarantine is incredibly long. It includes the raw cookies from my school cafeteria, being in large crowds of people and eavesdropping on their conversations and, the movie theater. God, do I miss the movie theater. I miss freaking out over pre ordering tickets hours before the show, I miss bleeding out $20 bills at the concession stand, I miss talking too loudly during the movie and the chipper conversation that always happens after it. I can't wait to walk down my theater's aisle again. It was this longing feeling that lead me to create a 34 second itty-bitty edit of all of my favorite movies. E-N-J-O-Y !

The Virgin Suicides and @screenplaypages

Wanna know a secret?  I want to be a filmmaker. It's funny how easy confessions can be online when you can't see people's reactions in real-time. You only see the filtered versions that they showcase in their replies. Some of the authenticity is lost, but then again so are some of the risks. And this confession feels...risky. I know that we're just getting to know each other here but an important thing that you should know about me is that I'm not a girl who takes a lot of risks. I'm adventurous and fun-loving, but I'm intentional with how I venture out and purposeful with the things that I love. This is why coming out and saying this secret (fact) is so scary for me because it isn't something that I've always planned on wanting and pursuing. It's actually fairly new. But I'm a spiritual person. I believe in God, the universe, and astrology (in that order) and I've been paying a lot of attention to the things around me and I've no...

My COVID-19 Confessional

I (like the rest of the world) am feeling a little bit odd during this whole...global pandemic thing, naturally. And by odd I mean stir-crazy, anxious, frazzled, and restless. I know that I am incredibly lucky. I have the privilege to stay at home, my parents have the means to provide the necessities that are needed to survive this time, and my education can continue online. But it's still really freaking ODD. I've been an early bird my entire life, but during my quarantine I've been waking up at 9:30 am or later. I've been taking walks with my family daily when I usually only see them all at the same time two times a week tops. My usually bare nails have been colorfully painted since day one of this entire thing. I expected 2020 to be this major year of growth and blooming and change, but right now it just feels like a whole lot of staying at home and spinning in my seat. And there's probably  lesson to be learned in all of this. Some grand revaluation to be had a...

Hello my name is...

Blair. I'm from suburban city #19, Wisconsin and I'm starting a blog! I'm psyched, really. Growing up I've always been really into journaling and memoirs and all that jazz but I honestly didn't think that my life was (or is, if we're being real here) interesting enough to document and share with the world. But now, in the midst of this global pandemic, I feel like it is more important than ever to try new things and branch out---as much as one can while staying within the confines of one's home. The name of this Blog is Blair and the Big Blue World, and I chose it for two reasons. 1) because I'm a sucker for alliteration and I adore the way it sounds, and 2) because it will allow me to dive into all of the things that I'm interested in investigating on this blog. Because the world is big, and (70%) blue,  and BEAUTIFUL (hey, there's another B!!), and I want to experience all of the things that I can while I'm living in it. I'm talking abo...
